Whether your packing on our own, looking at a storage company or looking at getting upholstery refurbished, it can be hard finding the right supplier who will go the extra mile to help out with expert advice.
If you’re after some packing materials on short notice, we recommend trying out your nearest Warehouse Stationery. They have branches all over Auckland and while the quality of their packing materials isn’t really professional grade, it’ll still cut the mustard and the price ain’t to shabby either.
Storage King is a great option if you’re after packing supplies on short notice and don’t mind forking out a little extra for professional grade materials. Otherwise speak to our team today on 0800 086 683 to order them directly through us and save yourself a fortune off retail rates. On a side note, these guys usually have mattress covers in stock which can come in handy if you’re unlucky enough to be moving on a rainy day.
For a quick storage solution in a brand new facility close to our depot, we STRONGLY recommend using Spacemax in Henderson. Their team is a cut-above being a family run operation and they’re genuinely focussed on exceptional customer service.
Need leather refurbished? You can’t go past Fibrenew – not only are they ridiculously cheap, they do a flawless job with refurbishing or repairing furniture, and best of all – at the convenience of your home. Double the savings as you don’t have to pay extra for pickup and delivery.
Transit insurance is usually the most overlooked aspect of moving. Whilst we do have basic Carriers Liability cover in some instances, we strongly recommend trying out Ezimove for a more comprehensive cover. They’re specialist transit and moving insurance cover providers and partnered with Vero which have a good rating apparently.
Finally, we’d like to endorse Swanson Transport if you’ve got oversize items (think grand pianos or monster sized spas) going into tricky places. Their expert hiab operators together with our expert-er team of movers combine to perform mind-blowing acts of pure awesomeness! Think Cirque Du Soleil!
Special thanks also to Moa Beer for providing the occasional beverages to finish off a successful moving day!
Packing is never a simple task. We often come across customers who are ill-prepared, have left packing too late and have had to cut corners to get everything ready before we turn up for the move. Poor packing is the number 1 cause of damages in transit and also the number 1 reason why transit insurance companies decline claims for damages. After having packed and moved thousands of homes over the last 8 years, here are out top packing tips:
We hope these tips will make your house pack a little easier. Give yourself enough time and start packing early. Things such as books, toys and old clothes can be packed well in advance so have a packing plan and schedule in place.
For any questions or moving help, talk to our team. The Moving Squad is Auckland’s Expert Packers and Movers specialising in home and office removals as well as storage.
The earlier you organize your house move the better! Weekends are a popular house moving time in Auckland so give us a call to pencil in a time as soon as you know and we’ll happily hold it for you without any booking fees.
Use moving boxes to pack your possessions to ensure their safety and a quicker move. For smaller, heavier items like books, crockery and cd’s please use ‘book boxes’ and for larger ornamental items or cushions and linen use ‘tea chest’ boxes. If you are overwhelmed by the amount of packing to be done our friendly removalists can help. Ask us about our professional Auckland packing and moving service.
Make sure with your neighbours or your building manager that there will be suitable parking for the moving truck. If you are moving from a house it may be simply a matter of parking a car (or two if you can!) in front of your house. For apartment buildings in Auckland there is usually a designated loading zone for removalists but make sure to reserve this in advance along with the lift. Your building manager will also have special blankets/covers to protect lifts and its very important to arrange this well before the move.
Moving house in Auckland is a great opportunity to declutter and donate unwanted items. Speak your local Salvation Army to arrange pickup or we can deliver it for you. For all other rubbish and unwanted goods check with Auckland council about booking in a free hard rubbish collection. Recycling furniture and clearing hard rubbish before your house move can save you a lot of time and money.
Minimize your house moving costs by moving the smaller items yourself and leave the bigger items to us. Quite often people do prefer to move some boxes, clothing and smaller electrical items themselves.
We have found that for a great many house moves it is actually cheaper to use a reliable Auckland removalist than to hire your own truck. On a weekend in Auckland truck hire can be up to $280 per day not including petrol or the surcharge for kilometres. Also you have the added stress of driving the truck, finding sufficient blankets and straps to protect your furniture, and most importantly finding friends to help you!
No one can predict Auckland weather but you can always plan ahead for worst case scenario and keeping an eye on weather report. If it’s a cold and wet Auckland day have plenty of packing materials like plastic covers for beds and couches. These can be purchased from any of the reputable Auckland storage company nearby or by ordering it from us on 0800 086 683. We can also bring your order along on your moving day to save on delivery fees. If you’ve got muddy access or unpaved driveways, you can buy drop-sheets from your local Mitre 10 or Bunnings Warehouse for movers to use.
If your Auckland house move is in the middle of summer , stick to 2 simple rules – keep hydrated and don’t forget to slip-slop-slap.
